This was another great performance by Heston 1999s. We are stringing together some impressive results. Again the important thing was great team work, we had a good spirit, everyone worked hard for each other. We passed the ball well, at times almost like the Dutch national team (well nearly!). The first third was won comfortably if not emphatically, 2-0, with Declan being in the perfect position to ensure a loose goalmouth ball went to Mids' net. Rob had lovely cross glanced into the goal by Aaron. mids came back into the game in the second third, equalising with 2 goals before Declan scored a second and then get his hat trick. Those wer the only 2 goals our back line were to give away. Calum had another stormer in goals, getting his body behind the few balls that came his way, distributed the ball with confidence and is giving his defenders confidence. Blair was as reliable as ever, clearing up every ball that came his way and what makes him stand out that having got the ball he is always looking to start an attack with creative balls from the back. Jamie was a brick wall at the back. Attackers really don't like him cause they just can't get past him. Robert completed an almost invincible back 3, and as well as covering his position was always getting forward, scored a goal, and passed the ball around like Zidane.
In the last third we really put the foot on the gas, knocking in 8 goals with no reply against a resilient Mids team, who only had 7 99's and had some spirited 2000s helping them, however they were tiring. Liam scored a couple of typical Liam goals, beautiful control followed by a sweet strike to give the keeper no chance, in spite of being a little jaded. Declan knocked in another 2 to make a total of 5 goals. He was everywhere, tacklin, beating opponents, shooting, taking corners- I thought he had a twin he was in so many places. Greg had a great game, playing in defence, midfield and attack, and competed well, got some great passes in and was unlucky not to get a couple of goals when shots shaved the post. Declan D, one of our newest recruits showed that he can bring his increasingly effective football from training to the pitch. He covered everything and built some confidence, he didn't put a foot wrong all game. Aaron took longer than usual to get on the scoresheet but did get his at trick, one particularly well taken goal I enjoyed was a long through ball, he had a quick look up at the defence, took a touch to control the ball and turned and blasted the ball into the top left corner.
Sorry if that was a bit long winded but I promise shorter match reports if we score less goals!
